UPDATE 5/27/07: it now has a 4' "trunk" and is the proud parent of 3 new Ae Ae pups. It survived the frosts of early 2007 uder a piece of plastic with a tunnel into my house where the heater blew hot air on it all night. I hope to make back my heating bill in Ae Ae pups!

Surinam Cherries - an unusual and tangy tropical cherry that is one of my favourite fruits, 1 gallon size for the August sale (see complete list)

Aug 06 - My Ae Ae Banana finally has started to come back to life after I tried to murder it. It is one of the only ones on the market now because fo the hurricanes in Florida and I traded 4 Passiflora membranacea to Enid at Natural Selections Tropicals and promptly injured the plant upon arrival by separating it from it's corm. It has finally recovered and the corm might grow too. Stay tuned next year - if it survives it's for sale, baybee! Images of mature trees here (a image from another site of the Ae Ae at the SF Conservatory of Flowers), here and here (a nursery rarevariegatedplants.com).

Lapageria cultivar 'Nahuelbuta', very difficult to find, ours is NFS but might be in flower for 3 June 07 if you wanna photograph them! More images of this cultivar: here

Lapageria 'Mission Lace'. Lapagerias are waxy and very rare. Considered "the most beautiful flower in the world", they grow in shade well. They take 3 or more years to bloom - I have some seed grown plants in bloom now for sale $50 each. Or bring your camera to photograph them if you'd rather! More images of them are here: Lapageria rosea

Concord grapes are starting to ripen now! They are my favourites and taste just like grape jelly/juice. I have "Eastern Concords" in the ground but will also have some plants for sale including a California Concord (great for coastal climates) and two Eastern Seedless Concord plants which are said to be even sweeter than regular concord. Secretly I hope one does not sell cause I wanna try it. (see complete list)

Aristolochia gigantea (pictured) is in the birthwort family. It is a prolific vine and bears boatoads of these very unusual flowers. They are not carnivorous although they look like they are. Seed pods available August, plants for sale Sept. More images of them are here: Aristolochias and here for some really weird ones by Ellie's Garden photographer Nikhil Sarma

We have worm compost starter for $10 (tons of baby worms in that) Worm compost is amazing and helps reduce pests while it aids in plant growth.

Mirabilis jalapa (aka: 4 o'clocks, Peruvian Miracle Flower) is a prolific flowerer with probably over 50 flowers per evening per plant at the height of the season. It dies down each winter even with no frost and comes back from corms that can be divided. Ours are white. This flower has a outstanding and sweet night fragrance that is stong enough to carry on a breeze and is night fragrant - the flowers stay closed during the day and open at 4 o'clock (or thereabouts)

White Bolivian Fuchsia (Fuchsia boliviana 'alba') is a rare tree fuchsia from the south american cloud forest with stunning and prolific flowers and tasty berries. We have one 1 gallon plants in bloom for $30 and 4" that will bloom later this year or early next year for $14. Grows great in full shade, disease resistant, makes a small tree. (see complete list)and will have seeds for the next plant sale. We have one in the ground if you're curious to see it. People walking by often stop and admire it - it's pretty cool.

Another view of the stunning Lapageria in bloom here. We have Lapageria seedlings blooming or about to bloom $50 each - grows well in shady locations.(see complete list of stuff for the next plant sale)

This is where your hard-earned bucks are going. Tweaky Beak, my favourite chicken, has a congenitally deformed beak which makes eating bugs hard for her. And she is food-obsessed. So she spends most of her day trying to figure out a way to break into the feed bag. Here is a typical Tweaky Beaky meal...

UPDATE: Tweaky Beaky has gone to the Great Feedbag In The Sky

And here is the stunning Tweaky Beaky up close. You can see why eating would be hard...
